Today’s good story comes from Alberta in Canada.

Hero, an Akita dog from Taber, Alberta, lived up to its name by saving his owner’s life. He protected him from the elements and coyotes, and alerted people to the owner’s location.

Hero, the dog, remained by his owner’s side in the icy cold temperatures of -17 C. Hero provided warmth and protection to him, even fighting off coyotes who threatened their safety.

Taber police began the rescue effort when they responded to reports that a dog was possibly injured and roaming around near the sugar factory in the community. Officers located Hero and his owner after receiving complaints of a dog attack in the same area.

The 61-year old Taber resident was quickly transported to hospital for medical treatment and recovery.
