The park bench that says hello back

Someone painted "Sit here if you fancy a chat" on the bench by the duck pond, and something lovely happened: people sat. Then they chatted. Regulars now schedule their walks to coincide, and the bench has witnessed at least one book club, two reconciliations, and countless dog introductions.

The council, to their credit, repainted the sign when it faded and officially logged the bench as "working as intended."

Sometimes community infrastructure is just a plank of wood and an invitation.
