A catering accident became the street's most beloved annual event.

The invitation said "bring a plate." Every household independently interpreted this as dessert. Eleven pavlovas, trifles and slices arrived; zero savoury dishes. Panic lasted roughly ninety seconds before someone declared it the best idea the street had ever had by accident.
Now it is deliberate. Dessert-Only Night happens every year, savoury food is formally banned, and the one household that brought a quiche in year two has never been allowed to forget it.
