Dave has worked the same school crossing for twelve years. He knows the kids' names, their siblings' names, and which ones need an extra "you've got this" on test days. Parents drive the long way round just to get his wave.
He is not on a stage. He is not going viral. He is just reliably, cheerfully there, five days a week, which turns out to be its own kind of heroism.
